How to Lower Your Energy Bill

We all want to lower our energy bill.  Duh.  But if you’re anything like me, you’re accustomed to habit after habit of NOT conserving energy like you should.  Well, I’ll share a few things that I’ve finally gotten around to doing, and they haven’t really “cramped” my lifestyle as an energy-consuming pig.

Turn off the light when you leave the room.
We’ve all been told this one a million times, but do we always do it?  I always thought I did, but when I started actually paying attention, I was amazed at how many times I didn’t really do this.  Easy habit to pick up, and it’s a good one.

Stop using the air conditioning.
Obviously, this one depends on where you live.  But maybe not.  I have to say, I’ve known people who don’t use their air conditioners in the middle of summer in Florida; just a couple fans and the windows open.  Sure, it was uncomfortable at first, but you eventually get used to it.  Especially in states in the upper Midwest like Wisconsin or Minnesota, this non-A/C lifestyle can certainly be attainable.

The third and final simple tip I’ll mention today is turning off the television when you’re not watching it.  This one is huge, and so many of us do it.  We like to have it in the background when we’re writing, doing homework, etc.  And while that’s fine to want background noise, wouldn’t it make even more sense to toss on a pair of headphones attached to a Zune or simply turn on the battery-powered radio?

Anyway, those are just a couple simple tips that work for me.  Hope you like them!
